<p>At the Foundation Day celebrations of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) here on Saturday, Singh said that three per cent of the budget allocation was made towards agriculture in 2006-07, but that declined to 2.4 per cent in 2009-10 budget.<br /><br />Agricultural research has also taken a backseat and this was worrisome in the face of challenges presented to maintain food security, he opined.<br /><br />Vice Chancellor of UAS, Dr P G Chengappa said that UAS stood third in the country for agricultural studies and the money allocated for the university would be used to develop infrastructure. <br /><br />Several people were feted for excellence in research in their given fields. The awardees are: Dr M Shivashankar, Dr M P Rajanna, Dr Y N Shivalingaiah, Hema Ananth, G Rudregowda, Samuel Sukumar, Dasappa Ramaiah and Lakshman.</p>
