Last Updated 26 October 2009, 18:48 IST

Meanwhile, MLA Raghupathy Bhat intervened and assured to take immediate measures to repair the NH-17 stretch. He informed that currently a sum of Rs 6 crore has been earmarked for the repair works, of which Central government has sanctioned Rs 4.5 crore for the purpose. “Even though it is not under my jurisdiction, I assure to take all possible measures to get the work done at the earliest,” he said.

The protestors threatened to continue their agitation if the repair work is not commenced within 15 days. They said they would block the stretch on November 10 if government fails to take the measures towards solving the problem.

It can be noted that Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Sadananda Gowda had assured to take up the upgradation of the stretch some 15 days back and no measures have been taken in that direction.

About 500 to 600 people took part in the protest. Urban Development Authority Chairman Sudhakar Shetty, BJP Leader Suprasad Shetty and others were part of the agitation.
