<p> In the twilight days of life, when she should have been taken care by her children, this elderly is the support for her son. This is the painful tale of Sanna Subbi, a strong mother and Monappa, her disabled son. Residents of a Dalit colony at Bappalige in Puttur taluk, the life that the mother and son have been leading will certainly turn eyes damp.<br />It was about one and a half year ago that life changed completely, for the bad for the two. Monappa was working as a guard at APMC Sakleshpur on a daily wage basis. One day on duty, he slipped and fell. Since he could not move, some people from APMC brought him to his house. As he was suffering from pain, he opted to sleep for a while only to realise that he has been rendered bed-ridden for the rest of his life. The burden of running the family and taking care of Monappa thus fell on the shoulder of Sanna Subbi. <br />Amidst untold miseries, Sanna Subbi, at the age of 70 took up the challenge. Pleading in front of people she managed to get some treatment for Monappa at both Government as well as private hospitals in Puttur but all efforts went in vain as Monappa could not move on his own. <br />Today, while condition of Monappa is unchanged, the scene in the house has become worse. Apart from the widow pension of Rs 400 that Sanna Subbi receives, the duo have no other source of income. They have not received any help from the APMC so far. She says that her son has worked for 15 years in APMC and hence they should have come forth to provide some relief to Monappa especially because he had suffered infirmities during an incident on duty. <br />“I am toiling to take care of my son who should have been taking care of me. It is a fight and I shall fight it out but the only fear in my mind is about tomorrow,” says Sanna Subbi with damp eyes. <br />It is truly ironical that APMC, which makes huge programmes to provide stability to farmers through insurance and other schemes has failed to come to the rescue of their own employee who is in distress.<br /></p>
