3 killed in road accident in City

A 26-year-old woman, riding pillion on a bike was killed on the spot after a tipper lorry ran over her on Kamakshipalya Main Road. The victim, Jyothi, was a resident of Tunga Nagar. Srinivas, the rider of the two-wheeler escaped with minor injuries. The accident occurred as the lorry brushed the bike and the bike was caught under the front wheel of the truck.

A 70-year-old pedestrian was mowed down by a speeding auto rickhaw on Kanakapur road on Sunday evening. Srikanth, a retired ITI employee was on his way to house when the accident occurred, Kumaraswamy Layout police said.

A youth was killed on the spot while three of his friends suffered grievous injuries as a truck rammed into the car they were travelling near Attibele checkpost, on Sunday. Police have given the name of deceased as Ganesh (26). The injured have been hospitalised.
Hoax bomb call

An educational institution in Malleswaram received a hoax bomb threat call on Monday morning. The Malleswaram police said, around 8 am, MES Kishore Kendra School and College received a call saying that a bomb is placed on its premises. The principal immediately alerted the jurisdictional police. Sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squad were pressed into action. After a thorough search, the threat was declared to be a hoax. Police have taken up an investigation to trace the caller.

Jewellery shop robbed

A jewellry shop in Srirampuram was targeted by unidentified persons on Sunday night, who fled with valuables worth around Rs 25 lakh. Ramesh, the proprietor in his complaint has said that culprits gained entry through the rear door using a duplicate key.
Jail term for bribery

The District Special Court, Bangalore Rural district has sentenced two government employees to one year simple imprisonment in a corruption case.
T Kempanna, chief officer and Ravi, a bill collector of Anekal Town Municipality were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor for issuing a cheque towards the work executed by the latter.

The court has found both guilty and convicted them under Prevention of Corruption of Act. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each.

Chain snatchers arrested

J B Nagar police arrested three persons on charges of chain snatching and recovered two gold chains, two cellphones, two autorickshaws and lethal weapons, all worth Rs 2.60 lakh from them.

The arrested are: Ibrahim, Imran and Sanawulla are all from Goripalya. According to the police, the accused were involved in chain snatching and cellphone theft incidents in JB Nagar, Vijaynagar and Kalasipalya.

One held for theft

The Shankarapura police have arrested Azad Shamsuddin of Yelahanka in a theft case and recovered electric wire bundles worth Rs 7 lakh from him. The accused had stolen the bundles kept in new building of Victoria Hospital with the help of his associates.
