A private bus driver has been arrested for deliberately ramming into the car of former air force vice-chief S G Inamdar at south Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar. The driver, Depak Sharma, was later released on bail, police said on Wednesday.

Inamdar, a resident of Ambience Lagoon in Gurgaon, was travelling with his wife when the incident occurred on Tuesday. Inamdar had retired as vice-chief of the air staff in 2003. The police said Inamdar was driving a Honda City when the vehicle was hit by a private bus around 2 pm.

“The bus driver allegedly followed Inamdar’s car and hit the car again within five minutes near the INA market,” said a police officer. The incident occurred in front of Delhi
Traffic Police head constable Amar Singh, who arrested Deepak.

“The head constable is an eyewitness to the accident and attempt by the driver to run away,” Inamdar told the police, adding that his car was damaged and wife traumatised.

A case of rash driving was filed following Inamdar’s complaint at the Sarojini Nagar police station. “Deepak was arrested and the vehicle seized. He was later released on bail,” the officer added.

Constable beaten up

A Delhi Police constable was allegedly beaten up by two youths at south Delhi’s Mehrauli area on Tuesday. One of the accused, Sanjeev, was arrested, but his cousin and accomplice Surender is absconding. Constable Prahalad Singh, posted with the vigilance cell of the south district police, had gone to meet his cousin Himanshu at Saidulajab. The police said Prahalad was waiting outside Himanshu’s house around 2:15 pm when Sanjeev’s domestic help told him to move his motorcycle.
