Union Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily said that the BJP in the State is under threat of survival following the break up into three blocks. He asserted that Congress is the only party with full potency and it will bounce back to power in Karnataka.

Speaking to media persons, Moily said there is no future for BJP in Karnataka and the other two factions that were formed out of BJP have no identity. “The BJP is completely bedridden and there are grim chances of recovery. Nearly 20 ministers in BJP government are short listed for charge sheets. JD(S) is another tragedy,” he said and expressed confidence that Congress is the only party that can give able and transparent administration in Karnataka. “We are not into Operation Kamala sort of things which ruins the very foundation of democratic process. Coalition government is the root cause for purchasing MLAs,” he stressed.

Lokayukta report

Stating that the prime task of the Congress when it comes to power is to implement the former Lokayukta Santhosh Hegde’s report, Moily said the report should be taken up in fast track court with speedy trial so that the case will be solved within six months. Hegde has alleged Rs 16507 crores of corruption charges against the Bharatiya Janatha Party ministers. Empower committee by Supreme Court has also alleged corruption amounting to Rs 56000 crores in the mining scam. The State is experiencing brunt of corrupt officials in the bureaucracy under BJP governance. The BJP government has also commercialised education. Power shortage is rampant in the state and BJP has failed to tackle the issue. It is highly disgraceful that the state is importing power from outside. The state was in the third position during 1994 in the development index, but now it is in12th slot, he ridiculed.

False claims

The Union Minister alleged that the BJP government had falsely claimed figures in regard with Global Investors Meet. “The State government said it has signed MoU with 275 industries during Investors Meet. But the MoU had been signed with 37 industries only,” he revealed and added that the UPA government has released funds of Rs 1.17 lakhs crores to Karnataka in six years in contrast to the Rs 30000 crores allotted during NDA tenure.

Moily added that the Niddodi project in Dakshina Kannada has been dropped following the new initiative of gas pipeline project passing through Chitradurga, Mangalore and Udupi districts. “The work will get over by another four months as preliminary and survey work is completed.

Karnataka will be involved in National Power Grid,” he said.

Lamenting over Vasanth Saliyan’s decision to contest from JD(S), he said Salian has opted for the party that will lose deposit. “The Congress is strong enough to handle all such pressures. Salian has gained immensely from Congress. He was given tickets seven times. He was also made minister twice. Despite all these goodwill from the party, it is disaster that Saliyan decided to quit Congress,” he noted.
