Driver held for minor’s rape

The Bannerghatta police on Saturday arrested a driver in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl.

According to the police, the incident took place on February 26 morning near Hosakote. The accused has been identified as Soma, a resident of Bannerghatta.

The police said the driver was familiar to the victim as her family knew him. Somu offered to drop her off at school on Thursday morning and she agreed, the police said. Soma took the girl to an isolated place near Hosakote and raped her. Later, he left her near the school and fled, the police said.

The incident came to light the next day when a teacher noticed the victim sitting by herself, not interacting with anyone and asked her for the reason. The victim said she was not well and narrated the incident. The teacher then informed the management and the victim’s parents who lodged a complaint with the police.

The police arrested the suspect – who has confessed to the crime – from his house and booked him under the Pocso Act.

Two arrested for poisoning  dogs

The JJ Nagar police on Saturday arrested two habitual offenders for poisoning stray dogs in Ranga-natha Colony on January 5.

According to the police, the suspects poisoned the dogs so as to be able to commit crimes without much hassle at night. The arrested have been identified as Moses, 22, and Prabhakar, 24, both residents of JJ Nagar. They were involved in several crimes, police said.

The complainant, a resident of 4th Cross, Ranganatha Colony, told the police that he had noticed five dogs and some crows dead on the street around 7 am on January 5. He said a few miscreants had fed the dogs biryani laced with poison.

The police nabbed Moses and Prabhakar based on footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area. The duo confessed to the crime, said the police.

They stole bike and autorickshaw batteries. Recently, when they tried to steal batteries in Ranganatha Colony, they were chased by a few stray dogs and one of them bit Prabhakar in the leg.

The duo was in Ranganatha Colony around 1 am on January 5 to steal some batteries, when they noticed the barking dogs. They wanted to teach the canines a lesson. They found a bag containing leftover biryani in a dustbin. Moses went home and brought rat poison, mixed it with the rice and placed it at different spots in the area. The unsuspecting dogs ate the biryani and died, the police said.
