Last Updated 28 April 2013, 18:37 IST

Traffic violators, beware. You are being watched. The city installed with CCTV cameras in prominent junctions will soon monitor your movements.

It is high time those who violate traffic norms, including rash driving, harass women riders and behave callously in public places, mend their ways as they would be closely watched.

Steps are being taken by the traffic police to instal CCTV cameras at 12 important points in the city. Towers have been erected at the entrance of Government Hospital, Circle in front of ZP office, near Hemavathy statue, M G Road and other places.

CCTVs are being used to keep a tab on vehicles plying in a suspecting manner and also to monitor traffic and help in taking action on those who violate traffic rules.

Shortage of staff had become a problem for traffic police in regulating vehicular traffic. They hope that the CCTV cameras would help reduce their workload.

Moreover, when drivers and riders are aware that the cameras are monitoring them, traffic violation cases will automatically come down.

Superintendent of Police Amit Singh said, it may take another month for the CCTV cameras to begin operations.
