Missing girl's parents hold protest

Unhappy over police’s indifference in tracing a 12-year-old girl, who went missing on her way to the tuition classes, neighbours and her family members staged a protest near Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in north-east Delhi’s Nand Nagri area on Saturday morning.

The girl, a student of class 8 at a nearby private school, went missing on Friday night.
“Like everyday, she went for her tuition classes at around 7 pm in Nand Nagri area, but did not return till late night. Anxious over this, her mother searched for her a lot in the locality. Later she informed me. I also contacted some neighbours but in vain,” said victim’s father.

A call to the police control room was made around 9 pm and a team of police reached the girl’s house.

Her family’s statement was taken. A case has been registered under section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) of Indian Penal Code over the statement of victim’s family at Nand Nagri police station against unknown persons and further investigations are underway.

Miffed with local police for not taking prompt action, several persons, including victim’s family members, held a demonstration at a traffic intersection near the hospital which led to traffic snarl in the morning.

The irate mob pelted stones at 10 buses, damaging two DTC AC low-floor buses, four low-floor buses, two cluster buses and two other buses.

Heavy police force was deployed in the area to disperse the crowd and traffic was diverted. Police succeeded in mollifying the agitators till afternoon.

Meanwhile, police said they have formed a team and pressed it into service to recover the child and nab the accused. Since her family has not listed anyone as a suspect, their investigations are still on in this regard.

“We have formed a special team and are probing into the matter. We have questioned several people, including her friends, and we are hopeful of tracing her soon,” said a senior police officer.
