Missing names creates confusion at Narasimharaja

Last Updated 05 May 2013, 19:18 IST

The district administration, in association with several organisations had stressed on the importance of voting and had even sought unique methods to publicise the same. However, a majority of the voters of Narasimharaja Constituency who were inspired by this had lined up for voting in their respective polling booths, found their names missing from the list.

Though voting began in a smooth manner and those having voter’s slips cast their votes without any problem, it was those who did not have the voter’s slips that had a harrowing experience. The agents on the premises of the voting booths were surrounded by these voters.

Aslam Pasha, who had come along with his wife to the government school at Bannimantap, found the names of all this family members, except his.

Shashireka, a resident of HUDCO II stage, who had recently voted in the Urban Local Body polls too was disappointed to find her name missing.

Nisha, a transgender from Narasimharaja constituency, who has voted several times was shocked when her name had been deleted during the ULB polls. She was assured that the mistake would be rectified for the Assembly polls. She was however in for yet another disappointment.

N Krishnamurthy, Director of Kartavya IT Solutions, who had applied for change of address, did not find his name either in Chamaraja or in Krishnaraja, where he resided earlier. “The district administration, instead of creating awareness, should focus on rectifying such problems. I have lost my chance to vote for no mistake of mine,” he added.

BLO’s clueless

Block Level Officers deputed on the premises of every booth by the Mysore City Corporation were clueless about addressing the problem of deletions, and were totally dependent on the list of names provided to them. One of the officers said that he was from the department of Agriculture and had been deputed on poll duty, and that he was unable to answer the volley of questions posed by the voters.
