46 aspirants for 5 posts in Udupi

The counting of votes for the assembly polls, which witnessed a 76.15 per cent voter turnout in the district, will be held on Wednesday for the five assembly constituencies in T A Pai English Medium School, Kunjeebettu.

The district administration has made necessary arrangements for the smooth counting of votes. Security has been beefed up in the area. Counting of votes polled in Sunday's elections starts at 8 am. A total of 46 candidates are in the fray.

Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju told Deccan Herald that the arrangements for the counting are well planned. The counting for five assembly constituencies will be held in five different halls. As many as 14+1 tables are provided for each assembly constituency. As many as 14 tables are provided for EVMs and one for the counting of postal ballot. Around 500 officials are deployed for the purpose, he added.

He said Section 144 has been clamped in the entire district from morning on May 8 to 6 am on May 9. Until then, victory procession is banned in the entire district. The winning party should take prior permission to celebrate the success through victory processions. The DC added that the first round result is expected at around 9.30 am and the entire result will be out by 2 pm. As many as three polling officials are appointed per table. Each counting table comprises of a counting supervisor, a counting assistant and a micro observer to monitor the counting process, he said.

SP Dr Boralingaiah M B said the security in the surrounding T A Pai English Medium School, Kunjeebettu, where the counting will be held is tightened.

Around 3 DySPs, 6 CPI/PIs, 24 PSI/SIs, 108 police personnel and 55 home guard personnel will be in charge of the security in and around the counting centre. Besides, 2 KSRP platoons, 1 District Armed Reserve Police platoon and 1 BSF battalion will be deployed in the area, he added.
