RCB were looking to post 125, says Kartik

Defending a small total of 115/8, the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s bowlers did well to push the game to the final over and Murali Kartik felt another 10 runs would have given them a win against Kolkata Knight Riders here on Sunday.

“It looked a bit greenish from far but was slightly on the slowish side and double-paced more than anything else,” pointed out the left-arm spinner when asked about the nature of the pitch which was good from far but far from good, so to say. “.... Sometimes you never know what is the best total on this kind of surface. I thought possibly 10 more runs would have been a fighting total. 125 was what we were looking at, but we couldn’t get them,” rued Kartik.

Kartik was a bit animated when Jacques Kallis tried to back up too far at the non-striker’s end and the bowler warned him of running out. “It’s not an attempt at Mankeding,” he remarked.

“Look, at the end of the day when we (bowlers) miss it even by a fraction of a line, it’s called a no-ball. When the lines are the same and the margins are the same, you can’t be stealing a yard or two. I don’t think such things are acceptable. I don’t know how people accept it, I can’t accept it. When I am suppose to be within the line when I deliver, the batsmen are suppose to be within the crease. And again, the margins there are minimal when you look at direct hits and stuff,” he explained.

Kartik hoped the Challengers will win their remaining two games at home. “It’s going to be a must-win situation for us now I guess. And since no one else is doing us any favour, we need to take care of ourselves. But we are still in a good position and that’s the positive out of all this. We are still among the top four and hopefully (we will pull off) a couple of wins at home.”

The Knight Riders’ all-rounder and man of the match Jacques Kallis, meanwhile, felt the pitch here wasn’t ideal for T20 cricket. “I thought we did well to restrict them to 115. Probably 130-135 would have been tough. It wasn’t an ideal wicket for T20 cricket. But those were the conditions given and I think we played better under the conditions than RCB.”
