Siddaramaiah 'maha' partial to rural legislators

A five time MLA representing T Narsipura (SC) constituency in Mysore district, Dr H C Mahadevappa also holds the credit of a long term legislator.

A native of Hadinaaru, Mahadevappa an ardent supporter of Siddaramaiah followed his leader to Congress in the year 2006. He won the elections on Congress ticket in the year 2008. In 1985, 1999 to 2004, he had contested on Janata Party and JD(S) tickets, respectively. In the recently concluded elections too he won, but by a slender thin margin of 323 votes.

Mahadevappa also holds an MBBS degree. He however completed his graduation only in the year 1996 - after he was actually inducted into the State cabinet during J H Patel’s term. Mahadevappa who had joined JJM Medical College at Davangere in 1970’s had failed in some subjects.

He obtained the MBBS degree after he became the health and family welfare minister in 1996. Later, when the JD(S)-Congress combine formed the government, he became rural development and panchayat raj minister.

Mahadeva Prasad

A five time MLA representing Gundlupet in the Assembly, H S Mahadeva Prasad has set a record with his winning spree.

Born into a family of agriculturists at Halahalli in Gundlupet taluk, Prasad was attracted towards politics as a student leader in the college.

The Assembly segment has the credit of giving a first ever woman speaker to the Assembly. K S Nagarathnamma who represented the seat till her death in the year 1993, had even trounced both H N Srikanta Shetty, father of Mahadeva Prasad in the year 1983 and Prasad in the year 1985. It was only after her death, Prasad could make it to the Assembly winning the polls in the year 1994. Since then there was no looking back for Prasad emerged victorious, but on different party symbols; as Janata Dal nominee in 1994, JD(U) in 1999, JD(S) in 2004, and Congress in 2008.
Prasad has previously served as minister of food and civil supplies and Kannada and culture.
