The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) on Wednesday entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), New York. The MoU is aimed at promotion of and co-operation in technical education and advancement between the two institutions.

H Maheshappa, Vice-Chancellor of VTU, said, “The students and faculty of VTU will benefit immensely from the IEEE computer society offerings. The additions of new programmes will enable students of VTU to acquire knowledge to enhance their opportunities in employment and career progression globally.”

Through the agreement, IEEE (which is a computer society based in New York) plans to provide the students of VTU and its affiliated colleges a ‘SWEBOK certificate program’.

SWEBOK stands for software engineering body of knowledge, which according to IEEE Executive Director Angela Burgess, will help students bridge the gap between education and career.

The agreement will also provide VTU access to resources of IEEE like technical webinars, computer society digital library and other e-learning courses.
Maheshappa, K E Prakash, VTU registrar, Steve Rockey, president of SWEBOK, and Angela Burgess were present at the MoU signing ceremony.
