Last Updated 24 May 2013, 19:59 IST

The body found in a stormwater drain at Pramod Layout near Mysore Road on Wednesday has been identified as that of Ranjit Chaudhary, 20, a native of Bihar.

The City police say the deceased was staying with his co-workers at a temporary shed on Dr Rajkumar Road. He worked at the construction site of Rajajinagar Metro station.

“On Wednesday night, the cement sheet of the shed collapsed due to heavy rain. While we managed to come out of the debris, Ranjith could not be traced; he must have run towards the stormwater drain. Next morning, we lodged a missing complaint at Rajajinagar police station,” Dhanajay, victim’s friend, said.

The next day, Byatarayanapura police received a complaint from the residents of Pramod Layout that the body of an unknown person has been found. The police shifted the body to Victoria Hospital, and circulated the message to other stations. Rajajinagar police station intercepted the message and sent a police officer along with Dhananjay to Victoria Hospital to identify the body.

Held for theft

Chikkajala police have arrested Shivaraju, 48, near Heera Bankers at Vidyanagar Cross and recovered stolen jewellery worth Rs 9 lakh.

The suspect, a resident of Sadduguntepalya, RMC Yard, had allegedly stolen the valuables from women passengers in Byatarayanapur and Nelamangala.
