Former Union minister and senior Congress leader V C Shukla, who was injured in an attack by suspected Maoists in Jagdalpur district of Chhattisgarh on May 25, continues to “remain in critical but stable condition”, said doctors at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, where he is admitted.

Shukla was airlifted to Medanta Hospital from Raipur in Chhatisgarh on Sunday morning.
He suffered two gunshot wounds in the chest and one in the abdomen. Serious damage has been caused to his large intestine, liver and lungs, said doctors, adding that he stands the risk of infections.

“He is critical and will continue to remain so for the next few days. But his condition is stable,” said Dr Naresh Trehan, adding that treatment will go on for long considering his age.

He underwent an operation on Sunday and is currently on ventilator support in the intensive care unit.
