Several parts of southern and eastern Bangalore plunged into darkness for over two hours when the Hoodi power substation of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) tripped due to unknown reasons, on Monday evening.

At around 7 pm, the Bescom control room was flooded with complaints from residents who said that they were experiencing a power cut in excess of two hours. In some parts, power was cut for up to three hours.

Bescom senior official Jayanthi N told Deccan Herald that the Hoodi substation tripped, leading to the failure of the Hoodi-HSR and Hoodi Pottery Road power lines.

Areas affected

Areas affected by Hoodi Pottery Road Line were: Cox Town, OMBR Layout, HRBR Layout, Frazer Town, Benson Town, K R Puram, Horamavu, Banaswadi, K G Halli, RT Nagar, Pottery Road, ITI Layout, Venkate- shpuram and Hennur.

Areas affected by the Hoodi-HSR line were: Bommanahalli, JP Nagar, HSR Layout, Hulimavu, Doddakanahalli,   Agrahara, Vijaya Bank Layout, Bellandur and Kaggalipura.

Jayanthi added that the failure of the two lines led to a domino effect, which caused interruptions to all 66 KV lines, causing blackouts in several other areas of the City such as Hebbal, Banaswadi, Yeshwantpur and Malleswaram.

Bescom officials said that the problem was fixed by  around 10 pm.
