Three end lives in City

Three people, including a young woman and a teenage student, allegedly ended their lives in the City since Tuesday evening.

Likhith Kumar, who had failed in the first-year pre-university examination recently, allegedly hanged himself at his house at Sharada Nagar in JP Nagar 7th Phase when his parents had gone out for work on Tuesday evening, police said. The alleged suicide came to light when his parents returned home.

The deceased’s father, Venkatesh, is a plumber.

In the second incident, young Eshwaramma, a native of Srinivaspur, Kolar, is alleged to have to hanged herself with a dupatta tied to the ceiling fan at the house she was staying at Basavanagar, Mahadevapura, on Wednesday morning.

The alleged suicide came to light when phone calls by the landlady elicited no response, and she peeped through the window only to find 26-year-old Eshwaramma hanging.

Police sources said that the deceased had arrived at the said house barely three days ago. She claimed to be a friend of Chandrashekar, who rented the house three months ago. Mahadevapura police sent the body for autopsy. Police said the cause of the suicide could be known when her family arrives in the City.

In the third suicide, Venkatesh, a 32-year-old garment factory worker, allegedly hanged himself at his house at Jaraganahalli, off Kanakapura Road, on Wednesday morning, hours after informing his mother about his intention to end his life.

According to police, Venkatesh had also spoken to his wife — Hemavathi who delivered a baby three months ago and was at her parents’ house outside the City — in the evening. She called him back several times, but he didn’t respond.

The deceased had called his mother, saying he was speaking to her one last time. She, however, ignored his remarks and said she would visit him in the morning.

As promised, she did turn up, accompanied by her younger son, at Venkatesh’s house.

She tried to contact him on the phone but he didn’t return the calls. Her concern then gave way to suspicion and worst fears. The door was broken open and Venkatesh was found hanging from the ceiling fan. It’s unclear why he took the extreme step.
