Karnataka eves storm into final

Karnataka girls stormed into the final of the AITA Inter-State National under-12 tennis tournament with 2-0 victory over Delhi at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) complex here on Thursday.

Karnataka’s Prarthana Prabhakar swept aside Kiran Kalkal 6-3, 6-4 and Pratibha Narayan clinched the tie when she rallied to beat Muskan 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Karnataka will take Andhra Pradesh, who edged out Haryana 2-1, in the title clash.

In the boys’ semifinals, Andhra Pradesh beat Gujarat 2-0 to set up a final match with Delhi. Delhi beat Haryana 2-0. The finals will take place on Saturday.

On Friday, Gujarat boys will play Haryana in the third-place play-off match. The girls’ bronze medal match will be fought between Haryana and Delhi.

Results: Boys: Andhra Pradesh bt Gujarat 2-0 (Teertha Shashank bt Dev Javia 6-1, 6-3; B Rithwik Choudhary bt Kevin Patel 6-1, 6-1); Delhi bt Haryana 2-0 (Vipul Mehta bt Chiatanya Chaudhary 6-0, 6-1; Sacchit Sharma bt Himanshu Mor 6-2, 7-6 (7-4)).

Girls: Andhra Pradesh bt Haryana 2-1 (Pratyusha Rachapudi bt Shreya Gulia 7-5, 6-1; Rachna Reddy lt to Chetna Kumari 6-2, 6-1; Rachapudi/ Amineni bt Gulia/ Kumari 7-6 (7-3), 6-4); Karnataka bt Delhi 2-0  (Prarthana Prabhakar bt Kiran Kalkal 6-3, 6-4; Pratibha Narayan bt Muskan 2-6, 6-2, 6-3).
