Just two months after North Delhi Municipal Corporation allotted 74 parking lots contractors under the new parking policy, it has issued notices to at least 20 parking contractors for violating terms of their agreement.
The municipal corporation's attempts to streamline parking lots across the city by reining in the parking mafia seems to be falling flat on its face.
The corporation is flooded with complaints against the contractors. Jolted by the complaints, the corporation issued notices to contractors on Thursday.
North municipal commissioner P K Gupta has asked deputy commissioners of all municipal zones to check the functioning of parking lots.
“Acting on the commissioner's instructions, the zonal authorities inspected the parking lots in their areas and issued show cause notices to contractors of 20 parking places in the Karol Bagh and Rohini zones of the corporation,” a senior official said.
“The major violations in Rohini zone areas were in terms of use of the handheld device, fire fighting equipment, complaint register, staff uniforms and demarcation of the parking lot boundaries with a yellow line,” the corporation official said.
The main complaints from Karol Bagh zones mainly related to uniforms, use of handheld devices and display boards.
Officials said the licenses of parking lots could also be cancelled if the contractors do not come up with satisfactory answers.
The parking lots which were given show cause notices in Karola Bagh zone are Arya Samaj Road-1, WEA Karol Bagh, Azmal Khan Road-2, under flyover near Kirti Nagar Station, Karampura commercial complex, Azmal Khan Park roundabout and Jeevan Mala Hospital.
In Rohini zone, notice were given to contractors handling parking lots at railway reservation office in Rohini, Sant Nagar, Rani Bagh, Ever Bake Restaurant to Parbhu Dayal School in Shalimar Bagh, Saroj Hospital and Rukmani Devi Institution, outside transport authority in Rohini Sec-16, LSC, D Block, Prashant Vihar, Pitampura RU-Block, sub-registrar office, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Pitampura, outside Rajeev Gandhi Cancer Hospital, MCD zonal office in Rohini, among others.
NDMC had allotted the parking lots to contractors after holding auction as per the new policy.
The new policy makes it mandatory for the contractors to issue parking slips through handheld devices to prevent overcharging, demarcate parking lots to prevent illegal parking, ensure attendants are in uniform and display relevant information.
