Last Updated 02 June 2013, 20:19 IST

The Regional Passport Office has cancelled the passport of notorious rowdy Hebbet Manja. City police have been investigating his role in the attempt to murder case of realtor Dayananda Pai, last year.

City Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji had constituted a special investigation team to examine the matter of Manja’s passport. Manja, who is now settled in either Dubai or Thailand, has been classified as a fugitive, evading arrest.

In its investigation, the Central Crime Branch found that most of the documents submitted by Manja to obtain his passport were forged or included false details. It  was also discovered that he had suppressed information on cases pending against him.

Acting on the report filed by the CCB, the Passport Office cancelled his passport. A senior CCB official said this was a major step in bringing the rowdy back home.
Manja has more than 16 cases pending against him.
