Flybus to ferry Mysoreans to BIA

Last Updated 02 June 2013, 20:53 IST

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will introduce a new service called “Flybus” to ferry people between Mysore and Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) from August 1.

The corporation hopes the service will get good response. The “Flybus” will be “a multi-axle Volvo bus equipped with facilities like chemical toilets, pantry and televisions besides a system that will, at regular intervals, provide flight timing updates,” KSRTC Managing Director Manjunatha Prasad said.

KSRTC has bagged several awards for its commuter-friendly network.

The service between Mysore and BIA will have just one bus for the first 15 days. More buses will be introduced if necessary. It will be synchronised with the departure and arrival of flights at the international airport.

“We are beginning with Mysore and will eventually have a similar service to Kodagu and Mangalore,” Prasad said. Services to other two places will begin only by September.

A survey has revealed that BIA has many passengers from Mysore, Kodagu and Mangalore. Prasad said the decision to introduce “Flybus” was based on the findings of the survey.

KSRTC sources said many flight operators are in talks with the corporation to find out whether passengers can book tickets for the flight and the bus simultaneously.
Prasad said: “Ooty and Puducherry have large tourist inflow, especially from France.

These flights have to hop off Bangalore. Therefore, we are also in talks with Air France so that the French tourists going to Puducherry can use our bus directly from the airport.”
Prasad added that the pricing policy of these buses “will be “reasonable.”
