Delhiites had an electronic music blast recently. The 2013 edition of Summer Grid - A Multi Genre Festival - brought together the best of DJs and electronic music bands from across the world at the Blue Frog, Seven Style Mile, Mehrauli. The party went on till the wee hours as no less than 25 artistes set the stage blazing with electronica.

The programme was divided in three stages: Full on stage (indoor), Prog stage (Courtyard) and Techno stage (Terrace). The Sun Project of Germany (VuuV Records) kick-started the fest with their indoor performance.

The boys from Hamburg are known to produce fine psychedelic-trance/full-on music inspired by their trips to Goa. The others to perform indoor were Pixel of Israel (Hommega Records), Psysex of Israel (Egohunter Records), Fibre stomp from India (Digital Distortion), Janux of India (Third Eye Records) and Leon Russel of India (Dazzle On Records).

Meanwhile at the Prog stage (courtyard), Grouch of New Zealand (Zenon Records) created the perfect electronica environment with its original, organic blend of psy dub, breaks and progressive trance. Silent B of Israel (Uoroboros Records) also impressed with his dark minimal psygressive trance, music with drive and a range from 130 to 140 beats. Others to perform at Prog stage were Hellquist of Sweden (Zenon Records), Loopus in Fabula of Italy (Fabula Records), Pindrop of India (Pink Orange) and the popular S.O.N.R from India (Occulla Records).

However, the most remarkable music was that of Midival Punditz (Six Degrees Records). They seamlessly combined changer, jungle and electronica with Indian classical music. The dhol, tumbi and sarod played with the synthesizer and drum machine to create the most upbeat ambience. Others to take on the Techno Stage (Terrace) were Weekend Heroes of Israel (Iboga Records), Jitter of India (Wayko Records), B.L.O.T! of India (Qilla Records), Pindrop of India (Weekend Music), Analog saints of India (Qilla Records) and Anastasia of Japan (Air Snare Records).

Ruchika Maan, an electronica fan who attended the show exclaimed, “I have attended electronic music fests across the world: The Boom Fest (Portugal), LovEvolution (Oakland), Electric Daisy Carnival (Las Vegas), Sensation (Amsterdam) and more; but I bet that this can compete with the best of them. This had the best of bands covering the spectrum of electronica from all over the world. It’s nice to see that Delhi is also hosting such music fests now."
