Archana Patil, 21, a fifth semester engineering student, studying at a private engineering college in Banashankari, allegedly hanged herself to death at her house at Dattatreya Nagar in Girinagar on Tuesday night.

Police said she was living with her mother Lata in a rented house and her father, A K Patil, an advocate who practised in Koppal.

After watching television, Archana locked herself in her room. When her mother called her for dinner, she did not respond. When Lata peeped through the window, she saw her hanging from the ceiling fan.

Lata alerted her neighbours who broke the door open and retrieved the body. Archana was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared brought dead.
Lata told the police that she had failed in two subjects in her fourth semester and was depressed. This might have driven her to end life, she added. The Girinagar police have registered a case.

‘Cops’ dupe woman

Two miscreants duped a woman near Sajjan Rao Circle on Wednesday morning and made away with her 60-gram gold chain.

Huchchamma, a resident of Kumaraswamy Layout, said she worked as a maid in a travel firm near Sajjan Rao Circle. While returning home, two men introduced themselves as policemen and warned her not to wear gold, since there were many chain snatchers in the area.

They asked her to remove her gold chain and wrapped it in a piece of paper and put it in her bag. When she checked it later, she found a stone wrapped in the paper. The Central police have registered a case.
