Rajasthan to get extensive air connectivity

Last Updated 05 June 2013, 21:13 IST

A trip to the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve or the desert in Jaisalmer is set to become a lot easier with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) planning to provide air connectivity to major tourist destinations in Rajasthan. Half a dozen new airports will come up in the state. Some are nearing completion.

The AAI has revealed its plan to open an airport at Sawai Madhopur, home to the big cats. A team of AAI officials will visit Sawai Madhopur to explore possibilities of operating flights from this part of the state. Officials said the airport at Jaisalmer will be operational by October this year.

“A team of AAI officials would visit and find out the possibilities of setting up an airport at Sawai Madhopur. The airport at Jaisalmer will be ready by August and flight operations will start from October,” AAI Chairman V P Agarwal said.

“We have given a suggestion to the government to offer tax benefits by making fuel cheaper for the airlines which are coming to India if they touch two places in Rajasthan,” Agarwal said.
