He was speaking after inaugurating the district-level Janaspandana programme at Jayanti village, in Somenahalli hobli of Gudibande taluk.
Janaspandana programmes were initiated in the State to address people’s problems at their doorstep. This programme was the first of its kind in the entire country, the minister added.

Thus, these kind of people’s contact programmes need to be encouraged by the officials for swift redressal of people’s grievances, observed the minister.
In the future, Mukha-Mukhi programmes will be taken up at the taluk centres to address people’s problems.

Earlier, the  village heads used to have an in depth understanding of the village affairs. This was because the village heads used to reside in the same villages and were therefore more attuned to the problems of the people.
However, now the village accountants and Gram Panchayat secretaries do not stay in the villages and hence are unable to respond to the problems of people. Instead they are steeped in politicking, the minister said.

Moreover, people should attend Janaspandana programmes in large numbers and  voice their grievances. Also, the officials concerned should be present at the programmes, informed Zilla Panchayat Vice President Chendur Venkatesh.
