Cops crack robbery case, seize jewellery worth Rs 60 lakh, nab 2

The Chikmagalur police on Thursday, succeeded to crack the Gokul Estate robbery case and arrested two culprits and recovered jeweleries worth Rs 60 lakh.

Neelakanta from Bilagi in Siddhapura taluk and H N Naveen Kumar from Hunasinakere road in Hassan are the arrested. The police have recovered a diamond necklace and a pendant, four gold necklaces, six gold chains, three golden bangles, a golden waist belt, two kg weighing silver blocks and other jeweleries weighing 1,219 grams and a cash of Rs two lakh from the arrested, District Superintendent of Police N Shashikumar told media persons.

It could be recalled that Gokul Estate belonging to A P Raghavendra, in Uduse village in Mudigere taluk was robbed on May 16. Neelakanta who was working as daily wage labourer at Gokul Estate, along with Naveen Kumar robbed the house when the house owner and his wife had traveled to Bangalore. A case was registered in Gonibeedu police station and the culprits were arrested in Mudigere town on Thursday, the SP said.

Prime accused Neelakanta who was earlier punished in other cases as well, had served five years of imprisonment in Hassan and Mysore prisons and was released two months ago. Robbery and theft cases against have been registered in Sakaleshpura, Koppa, Kalasa and Kushalnagara police stations. He also holds the record of escaping from the police when he was being produced in Sakaleshpur court. He had planned for a major robbery case and implemented it with an intention to lead a luxurious life in future.

Another accused H N Naveen Kumar had helped him to sell to the robbed jeweleries. Cases have been registered against Naveen in Hassan police stations too. The team of police who investigated the crime consists of Additional SP Mithra Heraje, DySP SL Nayak, CPI R Ramesh and others.
