A software engineer from New Delhi was allegedly forced by an autorickshaw driver and his accomplice to withdraw money from an ATM and hand it over to them in Cottonpet here on Saturday night.

Pratap Singh, a resident of Malleshpalya, boarded an autorickshaw at Brigade Road. As he got on the three-wheeler, he objected to the presence of another man inside. The driver, however, convinced him that the man was his friend and he need not worry, a police source said. He, however, drove the autorickshaw to a deserted place. The two then got down, wielding a knife. They asked Singh to part with his valuables. When the victim said he didn’t have any money, the duo took him to a nearby ATM kiosk and forced him to withdraw Rs 9,000 and hand over the money to them, Singh who is employed with an IT firm in the City said in his complaint to the police.

The suspects then bundled him back into the auto and tossed him out on the Cottonpet Main Road, before speeding away. Cottonpet police have booked a case and are investigating the matter.
