'Prostitution' racket busted: Five held

Five persons have been arrested on the charge of running a prostitution racket at Kothanur.

Rajesh Kumar Gupta (38), V Mahesh (39), both residents of K R Puram, Kamalesh Yadav (45), a resident of Kodigehalli, Deepuraj (29), a resident of Vidyaranyapura and Girish (30 of Mattikere were arrested on a road leading to BDS Nagar in K Narayanapura, police said.

When questioned, these men “confessed” to running a prostitution racket, police claimed. They “supplied” women to pubs as well as to individual customers, police added. The women hail from Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi.

Police also claimed to have extracted confession from the men that they developed their own “business model”; they would contact the women and receive payments from the customers.

The suspects have been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988, and remanded in judicial custody.
