Jiah Khan suicide: Police custody for Suraj Pancholi

Suraj Pancholi, accused of causing “trauma and abuse” that forced actor Jiah Khan to commit suicide, has been sent to police custody till June 13 by the Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Son of actor couple, Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, Suraj on Monday night was taken into custody following the discovery of a note left by Jiah, before she hanged herself at her residence. The, purportedly written by a distraught young actor before she took her life, makes serious allegations of threat, assault and rape against Suraj.

Seeking custody to investigate the allegations made in the note, public prosecutor A K Pacharane informed the court that the police have found five love letters exchanged between Suraj and Jiah.

Apart from which there is also ample evidence of Jiah harbouring feelings of guilt and remorse after aborting their baby.

“All this needs to be thoroughly looked into. The police have also collected CCTV footage of a hotel, where the two apparently had met on the day Jiah hanged herself. The allegations and evidence needs to be corroborated, and thus police need time to interrogate Suraj,” said Pacharane.

Suraj's advocate in his argument raised doubts over the note found by Jiah's sister, three days after the actor committed suicide, adding that Jiah was “obsessive and possessive in nature with a history of troubled childhood and depression.”
