The Union Cabinet is likely to consider a proposal to promulgate an ordinance for the implementation of the National Food Security Bill, on Thursday .
“The Cabinet meeting is scheduled for June 13. The proposal to bring the promulgation of National Food Security Ordinance 2013, under article 123 (1) of the Constitution to provide Food Security is on the agenda list,”sources said here.
Though there was talk of the convening Parliament special session to pass the bill, the ruling UPA was hesitant to take any decision, fearing non-cooperation from the opposition parties.
However, government is keen on issuing an ordinance for an early implementation of the bill, so that it can be passed in the monsoon session of Parliament, sources added.
