In a recently held event, Sufi rock band, The Soul stunned everyone at Zebaa with their tracks and had the audience in a trance with their soulful music.

The crowd went on a mystical ride with numbers like Tu meri jaan hai, Aankhon ke sagar, Naina thag lenge, Paani da rang dekh ke, Tu hai meri jaan, Laagi tumse mann ki lagan, Main tenu samjhawa and Albela sajan.

The lead vocalist of the Soul, Amit Vishal later told Metrolife, “Aaj kal Bollywood ka craze nahin hai. Its Sufi rock that is getting more popular in nightclubs and lounges. There is a sudden demand for good, soulful music. It’s refreshing to see that various clubs and lounges in Delhi have introduced Sufi nights to attract people who love to listen to this music.”

“When we started our own band, people would ask me what kind of music we play and who would actually enjoy listening to our kind of music. Now, all of a sudden, Delhi’s crowd is getting inclined towards listening to Sufi music and I guess that has helped us do what we wanted to,” added Amit.

The Soul’s philosophy is to preserve the past and present in a way that would be relatable to the urban with the fusion of Indian classical music with westernised styles.
The band comprising Sagar Bhatia - the lead guitarist, Bobby Abhay - on percussion, Gaurav Gehlot - the drummer, Sujit - the flautist and Jaydeep on keyboards besides Amit, loves popular tracks in Sufi but also picks up Sufiana renditions from Bollywood to create an all round satisfying evening for music lovers.

The band was also named the winner of Battles of Bands in 2010 and made it to India’s Got Talent also
in 2011.
