Last Updated 12 June 2013, 20:13 IST

RTI activist B V Sridhar Rao was allegedly roughed up and issued a death threat by a miscreant during an inspection on the third day of the on-going BEd exams in the City on Wednesday afternoon.

Sridhar, along with fellow RTI activist, Jayateertha, and Principal of Vijaya Teachers’ College, Professor D Hemlatha, were inspecting the conduct of the examinations at the Vijaya Teachers’ College in Jayanagar.

Sridhar and Jayateertha are members of ‘Save Teachers Education Action Committee,’ an independent organisation that has been monitoring the controversial BEd exams, since June 10.

Sridhar said: “When I was outside the college, a person came and verbally abused me and pulled me by the hand. He even threatened to “eliminate” me.”

The Jayanagar 4th block police was informed about the incident, who arrived on the spot to assess the situation.

Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, Jayanagar 4th block police station, Chandrashekar said: “A few constables were sent to the spot, but the miscreant escaped by the time they arrived. I have asked Sridhar to keep the police informed, prior to conducting any inspection in Jayanagar limits.”

Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, Thimme Gowda, who visited Chikkaballapur and Chintamani examination centres on Wednesday, said that the exams went on smoothly.

“Due to a few discrepancies, a student at Vikram College in Chintamani and three students at Ambedkar College in Bangalore were not allowed to write their exams. There have been no other complaints, besides this,” Thimme Gowda added.
