Review of Man of steel: A favourite superhero returns

English (U/A) ***
Diretor: Zack Snyder
Cast: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Russel Crowe

The story of the origin of our superhero - from being Kal-El in Krypton to Clark Kent on earth and his transformation into Superman is well-portrayed in the Man of Steel. With thrillingly fast pouncing and flying sequences, it is bound to impress. The negatives to point out would be the overtly showy special effects during fight sequences and the length of the movie that can be like chewing on taffy.

Jor-El (Russel Crowe) and his grieving wife launch their baby Kal-El in a capsule as soon as he is born to save him from being engulfed in the fire that destroys their planet. He is brought up on earth by adoptive parents who recognise that he is different from other children. Superman (Henry Cavill) has a role to play that is larger than life - to save the earth from the Krypton enemy, General Zod. Lois Lane (Amy Adams), the Pulitzer prize-winning reporter from the “Daily Planet,” in search of the truth behind the superhero is believable and adorable. Her character adds enormous value to the superb casting of this movie.

Henry Cavill has the looks for the perfect Superman (at times, too handsome for the role!) but his face is sure to stay as the ultimate superhero for some time to come. Although, Superman is known for his distinctive attire - the tight blue suit, the wide ‘S’ that covers his chest, his long red cape and his red brief, the movie misses out on the last detail, thereby ruining the feel of watching our old superhero come to life again on screen. Some of the scenes where Superman deals with his mother or with Lois renders the steel in our man to just melt away with an overdose of sentiments.

Also, probably if there is a sequel and there should be, we can see more action from our favourite superhero in daylight than in the dark.
