CM writes to PM on aid to Kannada

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to constitute a "standing finance committee" to operationalise benefits for Kannada language, which has been accorded the classical language status.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Yeddyurappa said the Centre has to announce two international awards for scholars of eminence in Kannada.

Apart from this, the Chief Minister has also sought the Union government to set up a centre for excellence for studies in Kannada and create professional chairs on Kannada in Central universities.
