<p>Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to constitute a "standing finance committee" to operationalise benefits for Kannada language, which has been accorded the classical language status.<br /><br />In a letter to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Yeddyurappa said the Centre has to announce two international awards for scholars of eminence in Kannada. <br /><br />Apart from this, the Chief Minister has also sought the Union government to set up a centre for excellence for studies in Kannada and create professional chairs on Kannada in Central universities.</p>
