The women’s wing of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee demanded on Saturday  that the Karnataka government impose a total ban on liquor in the State.

Speaking to reporters, chief of the women's wing Manjula Naidu said that the poor are spending a lot of money on liquor. It is evident from the fact that there has been steady increase in the Excise revenue in the last few years. “A ban on liquor will save lakhs of poor families,” she added.

On the government’s plan regarding cheap liquor, she said she will oppose any such move.
Besides, at its office-bearers' meeting, the women’s wing passed certain resolutions, which included: accommodating more women in the Council of ministers; giving priority to women while appointing chiefs to various boards and corporations, and fielding women in at least five seats in the next Lok Sabha elections.
