West division police have solved the murder of Mahadeva, a 23-year-old man who was hacked to death on Siddaiah Puranik Road, on June 6.

In a press meet on Saturday, the police said Anil Kumar, 27, Manju (alias Cadbury), 27, Lokesh (alias Loki), 24 and Sunil Kumar, 23, have been arrested in connection with the case.
Lethal weapons and a car used in the crime have been seized from the arrested.

An interrogation of the suspects revealed that Lokesh had taken a loan of Rs 10,000 from Praveen, Mahadeva’s friend. When Lokesh failed to repay the money at the agreed time, Praveen allegedly began to harass and insult Lokesh.

Furious, Lokesh called Praveen and asked him to come to Siddaiah Puranik Road, claiming that he would repay the money. When Praveen arrived with Mahedava, they were confronted by Lokesh and a gang of his associates.

“A bitter argument ensued between the two groups. When the gang tried to assault Praveen, Mahadeva attempted to intervene and was hacked to death,” police said.
