“Myself, my colleagues including Reddy brothers will strive for welfare of the flood victims,” he told reporters here on Monday. Admitting that it has dawned on him that a few of his colleagues were not happy with his style of functioning, he said, “I will rectify myself and take every one into confidence before taking any major decision.”

Terming the ongoing political crisis as 'unfortunate', he apologised to the people for the 'unwanted development', especially when people of north Karnataka were going through the most difficult period due to the floods.

The CM said that the State government had decided to increase the compensation amount from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 to those who have lost their houses completely in the recent floods.

Speaking after performing bhoomi pooja for relocating Ingalgi village in the district, he said a delegation would soon meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to appeal him to increase the compensation amount. Irrespective of the Centre’s decision, the State government will give Rs 50,000 compensation, he said. Out of the three lakh houses required for rehabilitation, the State will construct one lakh houses and Rs 1,000 crore had been released for this purpose. He appealed to the Centre to sanction remaining two lakh houses under the Indira Awas Yojana.
