Siddappa, Thippavva crowned

Dharwad’s Siddappa Shivanura and Thippavva Sanakki of Mysore clinched the 12-km men’s and women’s 6-km Road Race titles in Deccan Athletic Club’s (DAC) KA Nettakallappa Memorial Road Races sponsored by Deccan Herald and Prajavani here on Sunday.

Siddappa clocked a timing of 38:19.24 to claim the top spot while Krishnappa Santhi, also of Dharwad, settled for the second place at 38:44.52. Kanakappa Donni of Gadag had to be content with the third place at 40:18.31.

Thippavva was the gold medal winner in the women’s 6 km section, crossing the finish line at 22:48.65. Shraddharani Desai of DYSS, Mysore was a distant second to bag silver at 24:05.24. Desai’s team-mate K Yeshaswini took the bronze at 26:39.07.
In the boys 2.5 km race, CN Avinash of Kolar pocketed the yellow metal with a timing of 8:05.32 while Gadag’s Veeresh Ronada grabbed the silver at 8:09.28. S Sujith Kumar won the bronze at 8:27.08. Mandya’s R Rakshitha was crowned the champion in the corresponding girls’ event emerging on top at 10:05.64.

Vibha Sawant of Karwar was over a minute behind for the second place at 11:41.41 while team-mate Sunitha Kamat bagged the bronze at 11:43.45.
