A Congress core committee meeting will on Wednesday discuss whether to promulgate an ordinance or to convene a special session on the Food Security Bill.  The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Food Minister K V Thomas had discussions with opposition parties to evolve a consensus on the matter.

The meeting will also discuss the outcome of talks held with the opposition parties.
Sonia Gandhi and party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi favour discussions in Parliament on the bill that seeks to give legal rights over subsidised foodgrains to 67 per cent of country's population.

A view in the Congress is that there is no need to handle the Food Security Bill issue like the Indo-US nuclear deal and government should reach out to the opposition to get its support.
