Last Updated 19 June 2013, 20:53 IST

Defending its MLAs decision to back Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the trust vote, the Congress on Wednesday said they did so to thwart the design of communal forces.

While refusing to term the move a “prelude to any future alliance”, party spokesman P C Chacko said “We have supported the Nitish Kumar government to thwart the communal forces. It is not a prelude to a future alliance. This is without any condition. We do not expect anything in return. There is no quid pro quo. There is no deal.”

He denied any understanding between the Centre and JD-U government.
