Mitrankant, Aman Raj put on a fine show

Aman Raj’s unbeaten hundred and Mitrankant’s five-wicket haul helped Malleswaram Gymkhana come away with first innings honours against Jolly Cricketers in the KSCA Group I, Division II tournament for the MAT Acharya Shield here.

Batting first, Jolly Cricketers were all out for 233 in 87.1 overs. Ranjan R (43) and Mashooq Hussain (41) were the chief run-scorers for Jolly Cricketers along with Sujith Gowda (39) and Rahul Menon (30), who chipped in with handy contributions.

In reply, Malleswaram declared at 255/9 in 87 overs with Aman Raj’s unconquered 107 the highlight of the innings. HR Cheluvaraj (41) played a supporting role as well with some useful runs as Malleswaram took a crucial 22-runs first innings lead. N Vishwanath (3/98), Ranjan (3/78) and Suraj (2/83) were among the wickets for Jolly Cricketers.

Jolly Cricketers were restricted to 124/3 in their second essay as Malleswaram came away with three points.

SBM win

Manjunath’s unbeaten half-century and a good bowling effort spurred State Bank of Mysore (SBM) to a eight-wicket victory over Vijaya Bank in the KSCA Group II, Division I league.

Brief scores: Vijaya Bank: 99 all out in 29 overs (Prateek Jain 3-14, B Akhil 2-13, Nooruddin 3-18) lt to State Bank of Mysore: 100/2 in 13.3 overs (MK Manjunath 81 n.o.; Niyaz Niazar 2-23).
