Krishik Samaj polls: HC stays counting

Election necessitated as more than 15 contestants were in fray

While 54 nominations were received initially, 19 remained in the fray as on the date of voting. As many as 1,340 out of 1,715 members cast their votes at the office of Assistant Director of Agriculture Department.

Similarly, as many as 1,366 out of 1,504 members exercised their franchise in Chintamani. The election has recorded a voter turnout of 90 pc.
Three booths were set up for the voting. Candidates were seen canvassing at the venue along with their supporters till the last minute. The counting of votes could not be taken up following a stay order from the High Court.

Safe custody
The ballot boxes have been kept in the treasury with police security. Assistant Director of Agriculture Department, Srirama Reddy was the returning officer.
As many as 25 had contested for the 15 posts in the Taluk Krishik Samaj. There was a fierce fight between the factions of the syndicate supported by legislator Dr M C Sudhakar and the one supported by JD(S).

While the syndicate supported by the MLA has contested for all the 15 posts in the farmers’ body, the JD(S) backed syndicate has contested for nine posts only.
