The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is all geared up to celebrate Kempegowda Day, the birth anniversary of the founder of Bangalore. The event will take place on Friday and Saturday at various places in the City.

Like every year, this year too notable citizens who brought laurels to the City will be given Kempegowda Award. It is learnt that the list of the possible Kempgowda Awardees comprises at least 72 names, which will be pruned to 60. The awards are given in different categories including music, art, literature and journalism.

Festivities will kick start on Friday at 8.30 am with Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy and his Deputy L Srinivas garlanding the statue of Kempegowda at the BBMP head office at NR Circle.

Later, Murthy, Srinivas and the BBMP commissioner will pay tribute to the founder of Bangalore at Lalbagh Kempegowda Tower. The convoy will then move to Koramangala to offer tribute to daughter-in-law of Kempegowda, Lakshmidevamma, at her grave. The same evening, cultural event will follow.

Every year the event used to take place during Karaga festival but this year it did not happen due to the model code of conduct in place for the Assembly elections. This year, Palike has reserved Rs five crore for the purpose.
