Umashree promises cultural policy

The State government will soon come out with a ‘cultural policy,’ Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Umashree has said.

Litterateurs, language experts, academicians, thinkers and researchers would be involved while drafting the policy, the minister told reporters. Besides, steps will be taken to streamline the functioning of the department, she said. Guidelines would be formulated for allocation of honorarium to artists and grants to cultural institutions. Online payment of honorarium was also being contemplated, she said.

Speaking about the Lokayukta police’s raids on various offices of the department and confiscation of  files, the minister said appropriate action would be taken after the Lokayukta submits its report.
