JOIN USAnand Poojary, one of the accused in the sexual assault on a medical student of the Manipal University, was discharged from hospital on Sunday. Anand had earlier attempted to hang himself to death.
He was produced before the court of the Additional Civil Judge (senior division), which remanded him to police custody for five days.
According to the police, they had sought 10 days of custody of the suspect. The police had also brought another accused Hariprasad, who is in police custody, to the court to seek permission for DNA test. The court granted the permission and the police have collected blood samples of Hariprasad. His police custody ends on July 3. Another accused, Yogesh, who is in hospital after a suicide attempt, is out of danger. The police are yet to take the victim’s statement in the case.
