<p>The chemistry teacher of a local college in Patna Saheb, Prof Amarnath Gupta, was nabbed after a joint police team of Mohania and Patna raided his house in the Rajendra Nagar area.<br />Gupta, said to be the brain behind the vehicle-lifters’ gang in Kaimur region, was evading arrest for long. <br /><br />The professor made an unsuccessful attempt to escape through the terrace of the house when the police, looking for two stolen SUVs (sports utility vehicles), raided his residence.<br />According to police sources, one Raju Kumar had lodged an FIR against Gupta and his accomplice Girija Prasad Keshri, a sweet shop owner, for selling a stolen vehicle to him on the basis of forged documents.<br /><br />Raju, as per the FIR, returned the vehicle on finding that the chassis number did not match the one mentioned in the document. <br />He, however, failed to get back the money despite numerous reminders.<br />Kaimur superintendent of police P K Srivastava said the police were probing into the links of Gupta and Keshri with other gangs involved in vehicle-lifting. <br />“We stepped up vigil following an increase in the incidents of lifting luxury vehicles from Kaimur district in the last few months,” he added.</p>
