IT parks in smaller cities

The Information Technology and Biotechnology department has said that all efforts are being made to establish IT parks in tier II cities in the State. Accordingly, the IT & BT minister S R Patil on Monday announced that officials have been directed to identify suitable land for an IT park in Belgaum.

It is said that in Mysore alone, 25 IT companies were exporting software worth Rs 1,633 crore. Similarly, Rs 975 crore export revenue was generated from 17 IT companies at Mangalore IT Park and Rs 15 crore from the 12 Hubli-based IT companies.

Patil, earlier in the day called on Prof U R Rao, chairman, Karnataka Science and Technology Academy, to seek his advice on implementation of science and technology projects in the state. He also held a review meeting with heads of various departments.
