The Department of Collegiate Education (DCE) has revoked the order to increase the teaching hours of permanent faculty at government and aided degree colleges.
In an order a few weeks ago, the DCE had stipulated that permanent teachers would have to teach for two hours extra. If a college has only one permanent lecturer, he or she will have to teach for four hours extra. Accordingly, BA and BCom teachers were to teach for 18 hours, up from 16 and BSc lecturers 20 hours from the present 18 hours.
Deccan Herald had carried an report, stating that the order was likely to be withdrawn. “It was an unnecessary move in the first place. We are glad that good sense has prevailed and the decision has been withdrawn,” said K M Nagaraj, President, Bangalore University College Teachers’ Association.
“But any move should involve us. We aren’t against the government. All we want is the government to consult us,” he added.
