<p>The City police have claimed that Lakshmidevi, the maid who died four days after immolating herself following the accusation that she stole sarees, had “confessed” to the crime in a dying declaration that was captured on video. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Sandeep Patil, DCP (North), said he was confident the court would go by the victim’s first statement and the subsequent declaration before the tehsildar. Both the statements were video recorded. The tahsildar has not submitted his report yet. <br /><br />Earlier, Lakshman, a lawyer hired by the victim’s family, claimed that Lakshmidevi retracted her statement to the police two days before death. She said the police threatened her at “gunpoint” to confess to stealing the sarees at the house where she was employed. <br /></p>
